Volunteer for Reforestation Projects in Sri Lanka
Rainforest Protectors Trust provides volunteer opportunities for reforestation projects in Sri Lanka through our sister organization Rainforest Protectors of Sri Lanka. We conduct reforestation projects within lands protected by Rainforest Protectors Trust as well as on degraded state owned land through agreements between the relevant Government departments and Rainforest Protectors of Sri Lanka.
Volunteers should be physically fit to hike a mountain for approximately 30 to 45 minutes in narrow trails. Vast majority of our volunteers have a very positive experience. The volunteers are rewarded with breathtaking beauty of the mountains, sounds of nature. Most of our reforestation sites have beautiful streams, rivers or waterfalls.
Upon setting up the proposed Rainforest Conservation and Education Centre, there will be additional opporunities to volunteer including educating tourists visiting Sinharaja about the threats the rainforest faces and about our conservation efforts, educating school children and villagers nearby, setting up and managing a native-plant nursery as well as conducting scientific research with the intention of identifying and protecting endangered species.
