Rainforest Protectors Trust is urgently seeking donations to purchase and protect a 4.5 acre privately held rainforest land currently on sale in the northern buffer zone of Sinharaja World Heritage Rainforest in Illumbakanda, Kalawana, Ratnapura District. This beautiful land is situated in an area rich in bio-diversity where hundreds of streams flow through the rainforest to connect to the Delgoda river. Protect 27 acre forest in buffer zone of Sinharaja World Heritage Rainforest
Currently a 27 acre virgin Rainforest in private land is available for conservation in the northern buffer zone of Sinharaja World Heritage Rainforest. This forest land provides habitat for the last 2 remaining rainforest Elephants of Sinharaja. Therefore, it has a high conservation value and protecting this unique habitat will be a step forward towards securing the buffer zone of Sinharaja as well as creating vital bio-diversity corridors between fragmented forests further north. 4 acre rainforest directly bordering Kudawa River in Sinharaja Rainforest buffer zone
On November 30, 2018, Rainforest Protectors Trust successfully completed the purchase and permanent protection of a highly biodiverse 4 acre rainforest directly bordering Kudawa River in the buffer zone of Sinharaja World Heritage Rainforest and within close proximity to its main entrance gate. Due to many years of deforestation and forest fragmentation, Sinharaja rainforest has lost all the rivers that once flowed through it. Through this purchase and subsequent planned projects, Rainforest Protectors Trust aims to rebuild the lost riverine ecosystem and gradually connect with the core rainforest.
