Ornate Paradise Fish (Malpulutta kretseri)

Ornate Paradise Fish is a beautiful endemic freshwater fish found in Sri Lanka. Known as "Malpulutta" in native sinhala language, it is a very rare fish growing between 2cm to 4cm. Found in wet zone rainforests and surrounding area within shallow streams deposited with decaying leaves.

Due to the destruction of freshwater streams around rainforests for private mini-hydro projects, Ornate Paradise Fish is in danger of being going extinct in the near future.

By purchasing and permanently protecting the freshwater streams found in privately held rainforest land in Sri Lanka, Rainforest Protectors Trust aims to protect this endangered fish from going extinct.
